The Association
The Hidalguense Music Research and Documentation Center is the result of the work of the pianist and researcher Alejandro Chehin, whom since 2000 has developed several research projects related to composers and musicians from Hidalgo (MEXICO) in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This exhaustive search highlights the importance of recognizing the contributions of the most representative composers and performers of the State of Hidalgo within the musical and cultural scope of the country. Such is the case of the musician and doctor Aniceto Ortega del Villar, whose original idea gives rise to the National Conservatory of Music; or the work of the composer Abundio Martínez, who not only granted identity to the Porfiriato in Mexico, but also built a symbol of identity to other cultures with his pasodoble Hidalguense flamenco. This generation of creators is comparable to that of authors and composers of this time such as Felipe Villanueva, Ernesto Elorduy, Juventino Rosas or Ricardo Castro, among others.
The cultural impact of Maria Teresa Rodríguez, a pianist from Hidalgo who had a brilliant and fruitful career at both the national and international levels should also be noted. She was alumna and interpreter of the Mexican composer and director Carlos Chavez, with whom she worked spreading her pianistic work. Part of her history and legacy is compiled in the book: Maria Teresa Rodriguez: Iconography.

Finally, it is important to point out that the research work described above was greatly enriched by the valuable and generous donations of the particular archives of the composer's relatives: Luis Cesareo Ortiz Orozco, Emiliano Luna Perez, Jorge del Moral Ugarte and Candelario Rivas, first director and composer of The Band of Rurales of Pachuca, Hidalgo.
This collection was donated generously by the pianist Chehin to our Center, with the purpose of incorporating it into the State System of Archives of the State of Hidalgo, which is regulated by a governing body, and at the same time, organizing, describing, preserving and disseminating this legacy among society and the general public interested in recognizing and valuing the musical heritage of the State of Hidalgo.
